To continue our work, we need the following equipment:
1) PiCUS Sonic Tomograph, 1 unit, used for risk assessments of trees in Cherkasy region by ChSTU ecology laboratory;
2) Professional GPU, 3 units, for heavy calculations and simulations;
3) equipment for a certified laboratory of modern methods of surface structure research, non-destructive testing, and engineering materials science:
a. Desktop scanning electron microscope, 1 unit;
b. Profilograph for measuring surface roughness (including waviness);
c. Micro-Vickers hardness tester, 1 unit;
d. Inverted metallographic microscope, 1 unit;
e. X-ray fluorescence metal analyzer, 1 unit;
f. X-ray fluorescence spectrophotometer, 1 unit;
g. Pneumatic press with manual control, 1 unit;
h. Semi-automatic grinding and polishing machine, 1 unit;
i. Ultrasonic flaw detector, 1 unit;
j. Ultrasonic defectoscope and tomograph with phased arrays, 1 unit.
Cherkasy State Technological University (ChSTU) is the only higher educational establishment of technological specification in the Cherkasy region, and its services have strategic significance for the region and these services will gain even greater significance on the national scope in the post-war period. The university is institutionally accredited by the Ministry of Science and Education of Ukraine as an educational establishment of the fourth (the highest possible) level of accreditation. The number of students fluctuates around 3 600 students, who are offered 57 Bachelor degree programmes in 42 specialisms, 45 Master degree programmes in 33 specialisms, and 14 Doctoral programmes in 13 specialisms. The University employs 363 faculty members, 55 of which hold a Doctor of Sciences degree, 196 faculty members are PhD. The University runs 12 scientific schools and organizes specialized academic councils that award doctoral degrees both to home and international students. The University regularly hosts international and Ukrainian scientific conferences, seminars, and symposiums that cover a wide range of research topics in technical, economic, safety, and social spheres.
Cherkasy is the administrative centre of the Cherkasy region and is situated in the geographical centre of Ukraine. Such location has always had certain advantages, and now, in times of the war the advantage is that the region is relatively safe so far. Nonetheless, we are experiencing secondary effects. Challenges and risks for ChSTU since the war beginning: (1) shrinking university budget due to redistributing the state budget; (2) financing for research topics in progress is reduced and now constitutes 74.2% of the pre-planned amount; (3) reduction in the number of research works ordered by enterprises; (4) students outflow, especially international students; (5) providing for the IDPs’ needs (250-300 IDPs, USD 5 per person daily); (6) the University also houses Energy Construction Technical School of Sloviansk.
